First Nations Dance Program: Community Office

The Mill welcomes all First Nations independent artists to come into the First Nations Community Office to work together and have a cuppa tea or just sit and have a yarn with Caleena Sansbury, Kaurna, Narrunga and Ngarrindjeri woman and The Mill’s Program Coordinator.

Join Caleena on her work days, Mondays and Tuesdays 10am - 3pm. All other days artists will be greeted by The Mill’s friendly team, Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm).

At The Mill, we understand that the life of an independent artist can at times be isolating and we know that working together with community sparks inspiration, ideas for future work and just having a soundboard, can be all we need. So all you First Nations mob come in get to know our friendly staff and enjoy the space at The Mill.

We have two seats available and can offer a computer that will be connected to The Mill’s wifi. Send us an email to let us know when you would like to pop in.

The Mill seeking Adelaide Fringe, Reception + Venue Volunteers

The Mill's 2025 Adelaide Fringe Season 

The Mill is seeking volunteer applications (front of house/box office) for our 2025 Adelaide Fringe season.

Volunteering is an opportunity to gain valuable skills in front-of-house, box office and venue operations, all while seeing some amazing Fringe shows - for FREE!

Please send a CV and/or a short bio and list any relevant experience working in small-medium venues with similar equipment set-ups and include RSA/first aid certificates if applicable.

Applications will be assessed on arrival with the view to fill the role/s in January 2025.


The Mill Reception and Gallery Supervisor Role

The Mill Reception and Gallery Supervisor is the face of The Mill and plays a key role in welcoming people to our venue.

They are the point of contact for members of the public who reach out to The Mill (in person or via phone) and are responsible for making a positive first impression. They welcome visitors, artists and audiences into our spaces and make sure they feel well looked after.

The Mill Reception and Gallery Supervisor is also responsible for ensuring The Mill is a great place to work and visit; clean, tidy, safe and professional.

The Mill Reception and Gallery Supervisor works closely with The Mill Team in completing a wide range of venue-oriented duties, in and around our spaces and alongside our artistic community.

This is a 1-3 day/PW volunteering role, please send a CV and/or short bio and list any relevant experience working in creative environments, arts organisations, galleries and or hospitality.

The Mill Venue Manager Assistant

The Mill Venue Manager Assistant plays a key role in supporting The Mill’s Venue Manager with hands-on maintenance and building upkeep.

We're looking for volunteers with:

  • 4-8 hours availability weekly or fortnightly

  • A desire to develop their arts experience

  • A good level of physical fitness

Citymag Writer in Residence 2025

The Mill’s Writer in Residence program, in partnership with CityMag, supports emerging writers from a variety of disciplines. This program develops writers in the skill of arts writing through mentorship and publication opportunities, enabling them to profile local artists and passion projects

One 12-month residency in The Mill’s CBD studios is offered per year, culminating in four pieces of commissioned writing by the recipient and support from CityMag and The Mill.

The program also includes a $1,500 fee plus 11.5% super for a personal project, managed by The Mill, and aims to assist emerging writers in developing connections and exploring opportunities to collaborate with The Mill’s community.

Work funded under this program may include, but is not limited to, creative essays, creative nonfiction and storytelling, artist profiles and response to art and exhibitions.

The residency for 2025 will run from April, 2025, to April, 2026.

The successful applicant will receive:

  • A $1,500 project fee plus 11.5% super contribution

  • Four pieces of commissioned writing, managed by CityMag, a total of $1,200 plus 11.5% super contribution
